Here are just a few American Cancer Society programs you will be supporting:
• Look Good. . . Feel Better is an educational and support program that helps women with cancer manage appearance-related side effects of treatment. Professional licensed cosmetologists volunteer their expertise during individual or group sessions.
• Reach to Recovery links those newly diagnosed with breast cancer patients to other survivors. For the past 30 years, RTR volunteers have offered information, answered questions and provided support, while also serving as strong role models for life after cancer.
• Hope Lodge provides free, temporary sleeping accommodations for cancer patients undergoing treatment and their families. This home-like environment makes the cancer treatment process a little easier by providing support and lifting the financial burden of an extended stay.
• Camp Adventure offers a free, fun filled weeklong sleep away camp on Eastern Long Island, designed for children with cancer and their siblings.
• The American Cancer Society is a nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
• The Brooklyn Regional office of the American Cancer Society provides expert, personal help for individuals with cancer, including direct patient support and practical referrals; free cancer screening for people without health insurance; and free employee health and wellness programs.
